A 52 year old “trotro” driver named Yaw Alebey has been killed by a vigilante group “land guards” at Opeikuma a suburb of Kasoa in the Central Region whiles the police service in the district act dump to the incident.
According to an eye witness who is the son of the deceased, he had a call from his younger brother that their father has been engaged in misunderstandings with some guys which made him quickly run to the scene. Upon his arrival, he noticed the guys where “land guards” who lives in the same vicinity with them. He then tried to salvage the situation but later noticed about ten of their men coming to the scene with heavy weapons.
He then quickly run to the Kasoa police station to report the ongoing incident, but according to him the police never mind him. “The police man on duty was in mufti and was sitting on a motorbike making calls. I was asked to go to the DOVVUSU, I went to the DOVVUSU and they also asked me to go back to the counter, they kept on tossing me for more than one and a half hours without any response. Later on my younger brother also came to the police station to tell me daddy was dead” he narrated.
Then the driver of the taxi which they took to the police station made a comment “eeiii is this what Ghana Police wants?” and he was engaged in a severe beating by the police.
According to information reaching The Logos News, the “land guard” who begun the riot with the driver refused to pay the Ghc2 fair charged him. The conductor of the bus then had an exchange of words with the “land guard” which didn’t go down well with him, hence called his team members to the scene.
The “land guards” started vandalizing properties found in the vicinity including a taxi and a 207 Benz bus. After which they went to the deceased’s room to drag him out brutalizing him.
According eye witness, the “land guards” left the area after they killed him. But one of them was later arrested. The police upon interview denied there was a report on the incident.
